THOMAS VANCE ROE, M.D.
Dr. Tom Roe, 82, died March 17 at the Hardin County Nursing Home. Visitation will be Wednesday from five until eight and from one until memorial service time at four on Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Home in Savannah. Dr. Roe was born in Humboldt, TN, the son of Eleanor Barnett and Vance Roe. He spent part of his younger years in Paris, TN, and graduated from E. W. Grove High School there. Dr. Roe was a family physician in private practice in Savannah for 40 years until his retirement in 1997. Before beginning his medical career, he was in the U. S. Navy, taught school, worked for the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D. C., and the TVA. He graduated from UTK and UT Medical School. He was a member of several medical associations and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Savannah, three daughters: Ellen Petrie (Ron) of Union City, TN, Mary Ann Avery (Ken) of Dickson, TN, Tracy Morris of Savannah; three sons: Vance Roe (Linda) of Arlington, TN, Thom Roe of Jackson, TN, David Anglin of Savannah, 11 grandchildren: Elizabeth Petrie Stover (Neil), Samuel Olivia and Kirstlen Petrie; Anna, Emma, Audrey and Andrew Avery; Daniel and Haley Roe; Matt Morris, a great-grandson, Carson Stover; and one brother, Dr. Jere Roe of Raleigh, N C. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Darryl Worley Foundation for the Cancer Center, to St. Jude, or to a church or charity of your choice.
