He was born in Bowling Green, KY, the son of the late Jack and Anna Katharine Thurman Siddens. He graduated from Bowling Green High School and attended the Universities of Iowa, Western Kentucky, Miami of Ohio, Iowa State, the University of Kentucky and received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army as an infantry instructor during the Korean War Era. He also served during Vietnam War where he received 27 medals and commendations to include; 5 Bronze Stars, 2 Air Medals, a Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Metal, and a Gallantry Cross and retired from the U.S. Army as a Major, in Field Artillery in 1989.
He served as Superintendent of schools in Iowa, Kentucky and Tennessee for twelve years and had also taught high school and University courses. His last job was Director of the Care Center for Adult Reading and Enrichment in Jackson.
He was married to Sandy Ballard in 1992 and they made their home in the Milan area.
He served in various community services, and was proud to have been appointed a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a member of the Free Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners, American Legion, VFW and Vietnam Veterans of America.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Marie Ballard Siddens of Milan, a son, Robert B. Siddens, II of Nashville, three daughters, Leigh Siddens Hopper (Fred) of Hendersonville, Dr. Stephanie Siddens (John Rudisill) of Mt. Vernon, OH and Sara Siddens of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, George Albert (Bert) Siddens of Dyersburg and two half sisters, Peggy Perdue of Providence, KY and Lorri Poe of Chicago, IL. He also has two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Shane Michael Siddens in 1969 and a brother, William O. (Bill) Siddens.
