Douglas Hines

April 3, 1942 — January 27, 2025

Selmer, TN

Douglas Hines, born in 1942, passed away on January 27th. He attended school in Bethel Springs and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Douglas will always be remembered for his deep knowledge of history, his creative spirit, and his exceptional talents with his hands. A master craftsman, he could restore anything he touched, from cars to stringed instruments like banjos and guitars. His skill and dedication turned everything he worked on into something beautiful and functional. He also had a lifelong love for bluegrass music, but his greatest joys in life were fishing, hunting, and spending time in the great outdoors. Douglas received his first rifle at just 7 years old, sparking a love for hunting that lasted a lifetime. Fishing, however, held a special place in his heart, bringing him peace and happiness like nothing else.

Douglas also had a passion for cars, spending countless hours restoring, admiring, and appreciating them. For over 30 years, he worked as a dedicated service manager for Sweda, where his expertise and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lettie Garner Hines; his daughter, Yvonne Hines Wells, and her husband, Tyler Wells; and his son, Scott “Scotty” Hines, and his wife, April Love Hines. He was a proud grandfather to five beautiful grandchildren: Chelsea, Carly, Garrett, Ariel, and Angel. He was also blessed with four cherished great-grandchildren: Raelynn, Rowen, Rylan, and Audrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Alb and Alta Hines, his sisters Francis (Hines-Ross) Burks and Faye (Hines) Mitchell, and his brother, Richard (Benny) Hines. Two nephews, Steve Mitchell and Ben Burks.

Douglas’s legacy lives on in the love he poured into his family, his unmatched craftsmanship, and the memories he created. He will be remembered not only for his kindness, but for his infectious laugh and quick wit that could lighten any situation. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude or charity of donors choice.
