Dorothy May Deen, 82, of Whiteville, died Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Jackson-Madison County General Hopital.
The widow of William O. Deen, who died in 1982, she was a homemaker and had worked for a time at H I S Sportswear in Whiteville. Mrs. Deen was born March 12, 1923 in Hardeman County, daughter of the late Levy and Minnie May Lowrance and lived in the Whiteville area for over 50 years. She was a member of Whiteville First Baptist Church where she was active in the visitation program.
Services were Monday, August 29, 2005 at 2 PM at Shackelford’s Bolivar chapel with Don Hammons and Bill Sorrell officiating. Burial was at Melrose Cemetery near Whiteville.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Leatherwood of Moscow, TN; two sisters, Annie Lou Vandiver of Jackson, Tenn. and Patty Vandiver of Selmer; five brothers, R. C. Lowrance of Jackson, Preston Lowrance of Haines City, Fla., Lee Lowrance of Los Angeles, Calif., Rabon Lowrance of Henning and Rufus Lowrance of Ripley; four grandchildren and their spouses, Beverly and Tony Hood of Slayden, Miss., Darla and Tony Gauldin of Maury City, Stephanie and Terry Johnson of Collierville and Jennifer and Mike Harrison of Moscow; three great grandchildren, Nikki Hood and Billy and Paul Gauldin; five step-great grandchildren, Tina Hickey, Cody Harrison, Jackie Miller, Dusty Johnson and Corey Lothridge and two step-great, great grandchildren. In addition to Mr. Deen, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Vandiver, who died in 1955. The family requests that memorials be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
