Dorothy Davis was born on March 12, 1936 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Charlie Ross and Beedie Marie Baskins Dickey. On April 21, 1951 she was united in marriage to Billy Joe Davis, who preceded his wife in death on December 5, 2005.
Mrs. Davis worked in the sewing factories, Dillion Manufacturing and Garan Manufacturing, for over thirty years before retiring. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Savannah, Tennessee. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, sewing clothes for her family, working in her garden, and canning food. However, her greatest love of all was her family. Nothing made her smile more than her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She lived for her family and was a grandma to everyone.
Dorothy Davis departed this life on January 9, 2019 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 28 days.
She is survived by her children, Mary White and her husband Paul of Adamsville, Tennessee, Brenda Franks and her husband Charles of Savannah, Tennessee, Kathy Freeman of Scottsboro, Alabama, Jerry Davis and his wife Dianne of Adamsville, Tennessee, and Diane Cook and her husband Charles of Savannah, Tennessee; sister, Geneva Sheets of Adamsville, Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Verda Umphrey, Juanita Dickey, Myrtle Williams, Ruth Harville, Ada Marie Hunt, Rosie Umphrey, and Charlene Gregory; brothers, Daulton Eugene Dickey, Wareka Ray Dickey, Charley Walter (C.W.) Dickey, Albert Ross Dickey, Larry Nelson Dickey, William Edgar Dickey, and Samuel Vernon Dickey; and granddaughter, Bridgett Dicus and great-great grandson Myles Chandler Cook.
