Doris Davis Norment, 90, of Whiteville, died July 3, 2006 at Bells Nursing Home.
The widow of Samuel Vinton Norment, Sr., who died February 28, 1967, she was a teachers’ aide at Whiteville School and taught private music lessons at home for many years. Mrs. Norment was born March 8, 1916 in Fayettte County, daughter of the late Marshall Chambers Davis and Susie McCarley Davis Wright and lived in Whiteville most of her life. She was a member of Whiteville First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, and was previously an organist at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Whiteville where she also sang in the choir.
Services were 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Larry Finger and H. K. Sorrell officiating. Burial was in Melrose Cemetery near Whiteville.
She leaves one daughter, Nancy Norment Creekmore of Destin, Fla.; four sons, Beverly Ray “Bev†Norment of Destin, Richard Vinton Norment of Nashville, Norman Rivers Norment of Bells and Sam V. Norment, Jr. of Whiteville; nine grandchildren, Kevin Norment, Karen Hagerty, Brian, Cristy, Nicole and Nicholas Norment, Laura, Allison and Sarah Creekmore and nine great grandchildren, Savannah, Rivers, Sawyer and Rayney Norment, Paige and Faith Hagerty, Ellis Aaron, Jacob Creekmore and Braedan Smiley.
