Doris Beckham

June 22, 1934 — December 2, 2019

Doris Ellon Beckham accepted God's invitation to come into Heaven on the night of December 2nd, 2019. She was born on June 22, 1934 to Henry and Mary Cummings Murphy of Savannah, Tennessee. Over the course of the years she developed several nicknames such as "Tom", "Mammie", or "Mert",which was the most common. She loved God, her church, her family, and her friends. She was the type of person that if you were ever in need of a hot meal then you were always welcomed to the table.

Mrs. Beckham went to work at a young age at a candy factory, and later at a dry cleaner store. Over the course of the years she continued her factory work with Angelica and Brown Shoe Company, and finally at the local Savannah Piggly Wiggly which is where she retired. She especially loved working for Piggly Wiggly because she got to see and talk to everyone that came across her way. If you know "Mert" then you know her favorite past time, aside from music, was to talk. In fact, most of the time before the conversation ended she would tell about church, the musical instruments at church, and then invite you to church.

In the early summer on July 6, 1955 she married Grady "Pop" Beckham and later had a daughter, Marilyn Hope Beckham White and a son, Phillip Mark Beckham. Mark married Lisa Vickery in 1987 and in 1990 had Doris' first and only grandchild Jessica Beckham. In 1997 Marilyn married Timothy White, and in 2014 Jessica had Doris' first and only great grandchild Karson Conleay. Aside from her immediate family she also had a unique extended family, one of no blood relations, those that would come to her in their time of need or seeking advice. Later these people becoming lifelong friends or "her children".

Most recently she was a resident at Savannah Health Care (AHC) in the rehab unit after having surgery, however, when it came time for her to go home, she asked to stay at AHC. She loved being there and welcomed everyone that came through the front doors with a smiling face, open arms, and ready to talk. There is one thing that is for sure, if you ever met her then you never forgot her. She leaves a lasting impression on all of our hearts. She will be missed greatly, but she is finally at Home and where she has always wanted to be.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Grady, her brother Morris "Boss" Murphy, and her sisters Mackie Brown and Barbara "Bob" Conaway.

Memorial donations may be made Faith Apostolic Church, Hwy 203,
