David Johnson

July 23, 1946 — September 6, 2022

David Johnson, Sr., (Uncle Dave) 76, of Whiteville, passed from this life Tuesday evening, September 6, 2022, at his home.

He was born Tuesday, July 23, 1946, in West Memphis, Arkansas, son of the late Henry Alvard Johnson Sr., and Lora Mae Vaughn Johnson, and lived in Somerville prior to moving to Whiteville in 1980 when he bought a farm. He married Avice Robbins on May 17, 1968, in Somerville, and together they raised their family in the Whiteville/Somerville area. He was a farmer and also was the owner of Johnson Dozier Service in Whiteville. His family states that he loved to be a joker and cut up with everyone and really had a 'way with words'. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, going to church and cooking, especially bar-be-que, and was basically a simple man. He got his greatest enjoyment from being around his family, whom he dearly loved. Mr. Johnson was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Avice R. Johnson of Whiteville; a son, David R. Johnson, Jr. (Kerry) of Madisonville, KY; a daughter, Amy Johnson of Whiteville; a sister, Linda Glover (Ray) of Somerville; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 brothers and 2 sisters. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
