David H. Ray

On November 22, 2023, a remarkable individual whose life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication passed away. David H. Ray, born on February 28, 1950, in Jackson, TN, son of the late Billy Hugh and Ina Jewell Jernigan Ray embodied the qualities of a true servant and brought joy to all those fortunate enough to cross his path.

David served with honor in the United States Army, displaying unwavering commitment to his country. This spirit of loyalty and devotion carried over to his personal life when he joined in matrimony with Anita Faye Jones on September 24, 1976.

A devout member of the Church of God of Prophecy and an attendee at Abundant Grace Ministries in Collierville, TN, David held his faith close to his heart. He exemplified what it meant to be dedicated both to his religious community as well as to his cherished family and friends. Approaching every encounter with an infectious smile and an open heart, he had an uncanny ability to initiate conversations with anyone and make them feel seen and valued.

Beyond his spiritual pursuits, David embraced various hobbies and organizations that brought him immense joy. A proud lifetime member of the NRA, and member of in the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of Confederate Veterans organizations – honoring his heritage while promoting unity.

A true embodiment of hard work and diligence, David spent years contributing wholeheartedly through various professional endeavors. For fourteen years, he dedicated himself to Holiday Woodcraft in Memphis, TN, First Baptist Church in Horn Lake, MS for another fourteen years and  Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, MS, he dedicated sixteen years forging a legacy of exceptional work ethic and meticulous attention to detail.

Outside of his professional life, David's talents extended to the realm of baking. Revered for his exquisite pies, cakes, and candies, he found immense joy in creating culinary delights that he eagerly shared with loved ones and friends.

But it was his unwavering faith in God that stood as the cornerstone of David's existence. He lived a life committed to serving the Lord and was guided by principles of love, compassion, and selflessness. As a devout husband to Anita Faye Ray, a loving father to Anita Jewell Hite and her husband Julius, and a caring father to David Austin Ray and his wife Amy, his dedication knew no bounds. His love reached even further as a doting grandfather to Zachary and Keegan Hite, Eli and Samuel Ray.

David leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt by two sisters, Freda Weatherly of Adamsville, TN and Kay Bruner and her husband Jackie of Selmer, TN; sister-in-law Molly Ray of Jackson, TN; brother, Richard Ray and his wife Virginia of Bethel Springs, TN; along with numerous nieces, nephews, close relatives, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Ray.
