David Lamar Guinn
September 29, 1947 – June 10, 2023
David Lamar Guinn, lifelong Henderson resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 10, 2023.
David was born on September 29, 1947, to Ella Louise Cloud Guinn and Wasel Lamar Guinn of Henderson, Tennessee.
He graduated from Chester County High School in 1965 and studied briefly at the University of Tennessee-Martin before joining the US Navy during the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, David served on the USS William C. Lawe and saw an extensive amount of the world, which sparked his love of travel.
While stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, David married Darlene Essary, also of Henderson, on September 18, 1970.
When David was discharged from the Navy, he returned home to work for Guinn Bros. Inc., owned by his father and uncle. He worked there until the family sold the business, then he founded and operated Guinn Bros Daily Rentals for another twenty years until his retirement.
David was active in the community he loved so much, serving as a Chester County Commissioner for almost two decades and attending First Baptist Church and Cave Springs Baptist Church.
Although Multiple Sclerosis began to quickly rob him of his strength and mobility in 1997, he always maintained his positive outlook and determination to get better.
In 2013, he became an RV’er, allowing him more travel during his retirement years – most notably a three-month long trip in 2020 that took him to Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise; father, Wasel; brother, Steve; mother-in-law, Beautaun Essary; and brother-in-law, Jim Essary.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Guinn of Henderson; his son, Brent Guinn, daughter-in-law, Christa Guinn, and grandsons, Grant and Garrett Guinn, of Superior, Colorado; sister-in-law Janice Guinn of Henderson; niece, Amy Guinn of Waxhaw, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Linda Essary, of Henderson; nephews, Jason Essary of Summertown, Tennessee, and Justin Essary of Henderson.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s Crook Avenue Chapel with Ronnie Geary and Randal Page officiating. Burial will follow in Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue Chapel on Monday, June 12 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
