Darrell Edwin Bird, age 79, of Henderson, died Thursday evening at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Darrell was born February 25, 1946, in South Charleston, WV, the son of Roy and Eldine Bird. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1964 until 1968. He worked for BASF until retirement in 2005 and was the owner of Discount Mattress Center in Henderson. He served on the Chester County Library Board for three years, serving as Director for one year.
He was Baptist in faith.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kakki Armour Bird, of Henderson. He is also survived by two brothers, Roy Bird (Linda) and Kevin Bird (Joyce), all of St. Albans, WV; a son, Doug Bird (Ongie) of Alto, GA., and a daughter, Cindy Bird Smallwood (Danny) of McDonough, GA; sons Tyler Knipper of Huntsville, AL, and Brian Knipper of Florence, AL; a daughter Amy Horton of Florence, AL; a special grandson Coleton Knipper (Chloe), great-grandson Baylor Cole Knipper, and grandson Rowan Knipper; grandchildren Danny Smallwood and Jacob Smallwood, Bethany Hecht (Gabriel), Ashley Wambles (Chris), and Josh Bird. He also had 10 great-grandchildren and a special buddy, Nathan Howard.
Darrell loved golfing with his buddies.
There will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Henderson Animal Control or Kitten Cabin Rescue.
