Daniel Sidney Welch
was born in Counce, Tennessee on August 27, 1927 the son of the late James Clarence Welch and the late Era Irene Brown Welch Worley.
On May 3, 1947 he was united in marriage to the former Alma Jean Cook, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Private First Class and a member of Company F, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, where he was a heavy weapons crewman.
Mr. Welch was employed with Brown Shoe Company for 43 years and was a member of the First Church of God. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Boot and Shoe Workers Union. Mr. Welch was also a member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge #102 where he was a York Rite Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Cryptic Masons, the Royal Arch and the Knights Templar.
He departed this life on May 30, 2006 at the Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Mr. Welch is survived by his wife, Alma Jean Welch of Savannah, Tennessee;
2 sons: Jimmy Clark Welch and Jeffery Lynn Welch, both of Savannah;
2 daughters: Peggy Jean Crotts and Sherry Joyce Russell, both of Savannah;
8 grandchildren: Adam Welch, Amy Ingle, Jonathan Welch, Jennifer White,
Susan Crotts, April Russell, Ken Russell and Shelley Benson;
4 great-grandchildren: Wesley White, Sidney White, Bryson Ingle
and Lillie Benson; and one sister, Ruth Broadway of Iuka, Mississippi.
In addition to his mother and father, Mr. Welch was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Sidney Welch, Jr.; a brother, James Welch; a sister, Mary A. Layton; and his step-father, C.C. “Johns†Worley.
