Mr. Mathis died October 3 at Bolivar General Hospital. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Memphis City Schools and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was born in Pocahontas, son of the late Wiley Frank Mathis and Margaret Elizabeth Wilbanks Mathis and lived in Memphis prior to moving back to Middleton. He was active in the American Legion and was a member of New Hope Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Mathis of Middleton; three daughters, Shawnda Mathis of Bolivar, Myra Jill Griffin of Hohenwald and Tina Sowell of Moscow; a son, Dalton Keith Mathis of St. Louis, MO; five sisters, Jean Wizzin of San Antonio, Tex., Estelle Banning of Memphis, Louise Frazier of Palo Alto, Calif., Lee Pace of Mempihs and Faye Saucier of Ft. Smith, Ark.; a brother, Troy Mathis of Pocahontas; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Horace Mathis.
