Daisy Lee Helvering

Daisy Lee Cox Helvering, 62, of Bolivar, died Tuesday morning, July 18, 2006 at her home.



The wife of Jim Helvering, who survives, she was a registered nurse for Dr. Frost, worked at Western Mental Health Institute for over 13 years, at Bolivar General Hospital for a time and was a Home Health and hospice nurse. She was an industrial nurse at Kilgore and Harmon Automotive and was also an evening receptionist at Shackelford Funeral Directors. Mrs. Helvering was born June 10, 1944 in Forrest City, Ark., daughter of the late Henderson Clyde Cox and Oma Lee Cathcart Cox and lived in Grand Junction from 1960 to 1967, graduating from Grand Junction High School in 1966. After moving to Bolivar, she earned her LPN license in 1967, received her Associates degree from Union University in 1976 and taught a CNA class at Whiteville Vocational Technical College for 2 years. She was was an avid artist, a private art teacher and was a member of the Hardeman County Arts Council and Bolivar First Baptist Church.



Services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Don Taylor and Dr. Ernest E. James officiating. Burial was in Saulsbury Cemetery.



In addition to her husband, whom she married June 3, 2001, survivors include one brother, Billy C. Cox of Walnut, Miss.; five nephews, James William and David D. Vandevander, James Allison Cox, Jr., Billy Wayne Cox and Doug Ross; three nieces, Patricia Vandevander Kee, Teresa Ross Allen and Delores S. Ross; one step-son, Jack Helvering of Henderson and one step-grandchild, Dusty Helvering of Henderson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy W. Cox, who died January 12, 1999 after 31 years of marriage, and two sisters, Betty Vandevander and Eunice Ross.
