Coy Gee Siler, 89, of Bolivar, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at
her daughter's home in Fairhope, Alabama.
The widow of Eugene Siler, who died December 1, 1977, she was a
school teacher at Essary Springs and Pocahontas Schools for 30
years. Mrs. Siler was born January 17, 1916 in Bethel Springs,
daughter of the late John Beecher Gee and Nannie Laura Deming
Gee and spent most of her life around Bolivar. She graduated from
Middleton High School as Valedictorian and Freed-Hardeman
College, and received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the
University of Memphis. Mrs. Siler was employed by Millington
Naval Base during WWII, was instrumental with the Hardeman
County Developmental Center where she taught, and was a member
of the Retired Teachers Association. She also taught in "World
Bible School", a correspondence course, and was a member of the
Bolivar Church of Christ, teaching ladies' classes for many years.
Services were 1 pm Tuesday, February 8 at Shackelford's Bolivar
chapel with Malcolm George, Ray Wilson and Bertie Moore
officiating and Daniel Hammitt assisting at the graveside. Burial
was in Oak Hill Cemetery near Selmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Hill of Fairhope, Ala. and
Coy Whaley of Cordova; one sister, Bonnie Neill of Bolivar; one
brother, Ernest Gee of Hamilton, Ala.; two grandchildren, Angela
Hammitt and Ashley Holcomb and one great grandchild, Michael
Cade Holcomb. She was preceded in death by four brothers and
three sisters.
