Cordes P. Vandiver

Cordes Preston Vandiver, age 85 of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.He was born May 11, 1923 in Hardeman County to the late Hershel and Ora Priscilla Sanders Vandiver. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Normandy Invasion and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He married Ida Lucille Rhodes November 20, 1945. He lived most of his life in Hardeman and Madison counties, and worked as the pastor at the Pinson Church of God for 33 years. He was also a Tennessee State Overseer of the Church of God. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles Vandiver and Jerry Vandiver and a brother, Raymond Vandiver, all of Jackson; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
