Colleen Ward, 81, of Middleton, died Sunday evening, June 3, 2007 at Pine Meadows Healthcare & Rehabilitation.
The wife of Thomas Ward, who survives, she was a cosmetologist working at various beauty shops in Memphis and teaching for a time. Mrs. Ward was born January 22, 1926, in Hiram, Arkansas, daughter of the late William Ernie Grimes and Mary Elizabeth Landrum Grimes and lived most of her life in Memphis before making her home here in the mid 1980’s. She loved to do ceramics, needlepoint and stained glass. Mrs. Ward was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church where she was active in the Golden Sounds Choir and helped teach Sunday school. Her family stated that she was “a good Christian woman who loved them.â€
In addition to her husband, whom she married July 31, 1954, survivors include one daughter, Wanda King of Bethel Springs; one son, Jerry Havlik of Linden; three granddaughters, Jessica Matthews of Henderson, Sonya Smith and Tabrina Pollan, both of Memphis; one grandson, Jeremy Havlik, also of Memphis and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Shirley Goff, Amelia Sutherland and Anna Lee Varnum.
