Clifford Coleman was born April 8, 1918 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late John Robert and Caldonia Williams Coleman.
He was united in marriage to Mary Sue Jernigan McCarter on July 17, 1948. Mrs. Coleman preceded him in death on September 14, 2005.
Mr. Coleman served as Sheriff of McNairy County from 1956 until 1962, and again from 1970 to 1974. Serving as a bonded deputy for the Sheriff's Department, he went to work for the City of Selmer in 1975, rising to the position of Assistant Chief of Police. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, participating in the combat during D-Day. Mr. Coleman was a member of the Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Mr. Coleman departed this life on January 24, 2007 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 9 Months, 16 Days. He is survived by three daughters:Teresa Diane Null and husband Jimmy of Selmer, Tennessee, Sandra Kay Robinson and husband Montie of Selmer, Tennessee and Linda Ann Woolrich of Louisville, Kentucky; a son, Robert Neal Coleman and wife Lisa of Selmer, Tennessee; nine grandchildren: Terry Lee Coleman of Redondo Beach, California, Linda Kay Booker of Louisville, Kentucky, Marty Jay Robinson, Tracy Sue Damron, Bridget Michelle Hamm, Ashley Dawn Bauman, Jonathan Neal Coleman, Allison Paige Coleman and Dustin Tyler Coleman, all of Selmer, Tennessee, and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and spouse, Mr. Coleman was also preceded in death by two brothers, Grady Coleman and Rady Coleman, and a sister, Berthalie Willis.
