Chester F. Hayes
was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee the son of the late Joel Jackson and Mary Leslie Bradley Hayes.
On August 4, 1953 he was united in marriage to the former Ruby Gray, who survives.
Mr. Hayes was a veteran of the U.S. Army; having served 3 years in Labrador, New Foundland. He retired as plant manager from Angelica and also served as a Baptist Minister. He pastored Kelly’s Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee, Calvary Baptist Church in Haleyville, Alabama, and Shady Grove Baptist Church in Phil Campbell, Alabama and also preached revivals in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Double Springs Baptist Church and also a member of the Bolivar Masonic Lodge. He was known as a very devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He departed this life on June 17, 2006 at his residence in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Ruby Hayes of Savannah, Tennessee;
2 daughters: Karen Holcombe of Nesbit, Mississippi and Carol McElya of Bartlett, Tennessee; 2 grandchildren: Jonathan Monday and Carley McElya;
one brother, Walter Hayes of Crown Point, Indiana and one sister, Sarah Johnson of Lacey, Washington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Leo and Bill Hayes and one sister, Beulah Martain.
