Jackson, TN: Charles Eldon Rowland age 79 passed away Monday morning March 7, 2016 at his home.
He was born August 6, 1936 in Chester County, the son of the late James Ernest and Martha Ellen Holmes Rowland. He attended schools at Phillips Schoolhouse. He entered the U.S. Army and served at Fort Meade, Maryland. He worked at Brown Shoe Company as a foreman at Selmer and plant manager at Wolverine Shoe Company at Harrisburg, AR, where he retired.
He moved to Jackson and owned and operated Mid-Way Motors. The car business was his hobby.
He married Kathryn Van Dorien Shumate in 1992. They made their home in Jackson.
Mr. Rowland is survived by his wife, Kathryn Fay Van Dorien Rowland of Jackson; two daughters, Julie Kay Harrison of Humboldt and Holly Jana' Oakley of Humboldt; five grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Rowland of Henderson and Ellis Dale Rowland of Jackson and three sisters, Ernestine Sipes of Henderson, Jean Jones of Selmer and Christine Rowland of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sheila Rene Rowland Sowell in 1985 and a brother, James Rowland.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Ken Kitchen and Ronnie Geary officiating.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 12 Noon on Saturday until service time at 2:00 PM Saturday.
