Charles Mills, Jr. was born on March 28, 1938 in Oneida, Arkansas, the son of the late Charles Henry and Ethel Paralee Tyner Mills. On May 10, 1959, he was united in marriage to Elaine Purvis, who survives.
Charles was a member of Como Baptist Church in Como, Illinois. He retired after 38 years from Goodyear Tire and Rubber where he worked as a warehouse supervisor in Rock Falls, Illinois and Freeport, Illinois. In his spare time, he loved woodworking, going to flea markets, fishing, camping, wrestling, and old cars. Charles never met a stranger and loved to help people.
Charles Mills, Jr. departed this life on September 7, 2016 at the age of 78 years, 5 months, 10 days.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Purvis Mills of Crump, Tennessee; 2 daughters, Janice Mills Simpson, and her husband Tenry, of Crump, Tennessee and Jeanine Mills Gillihan, and her husband Duane, of Savannah, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren, Randall Mills, Dustin Holcomb, Matthew Simpson, Audra Simpson, Jessica Shaw, Brandon Gillihan, Heidi Bennett, and Jessica Martinez; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles A. Mills and William Mills; sister, Mary Virginia Mills; grandson, Tyler John Shaw; and 4 great-grandchildren.
