Mr. Howell died early Thursday morning at his home near Middleton.
He was born in Bolivar to the late John Thomas Howell and Minnie Hattie Victoria Pipkin Howell Sparks. He served his country during World War II in the US Army in France, Germany and Japan. On October 5, 1946, he married Thelma Louise West and they were married 40 years until her death in 1986. Mr. Howell was a member of the Little Hatchie Baptist Church and loved to fish and hunt. Most of all, he was devoted to the care of his handicapped daughter, Janet. He worked as a farmer and also at Riechold Chemical in Grand Junction for 15 years.
He leaves four daughters, Margaret (Larry) Young of Cedar Grove, Barbara (Luis) Osses of Bolivar, Janet Howell and Faye (Charlie) White of Middleton; one son, Charles Wade (Jill) Howell of Middleton; two sisters, Shrilda Stamey of Middleton and Minnie Ledford of Walnut; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Othell Smith; and six brothers, Willie, Alfred, Curtis, Rayford, James Elbert and Clifford Howell.
