Charles Wayne Carroll, "Daddy", "Pappaw", was born March 5, 1944, the son of the late Harris and Grace Carroll. He was united in marriage to Gloria Dean Patrick Carroll on June 14, 1962.
Mr. Carroll served his country proudly in the United States Marines serving in Vietnam. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. Mr. Carroll retired in 2005 after 28 years of service with the Tennessee Division of Forestry in Hardin County.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Patrick Carroll of Michie, Tennessee and three children, Dawn Franks (Roger) of Tupelo, Mississippi, Stephanie Hunt (Michael) of Savannah, Tennessee, and Lee Carroll (Juli) of Michie, Tennessee. Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by one daughter and his son-in-law, Rhonda and Jeff Rinks. Due to their death, he took custody of and raised their two children, Jeffrey "Brett" Rinks (Kayla) and Makaela Beth Rinks (Josh), as his own. He is survived by six more grandchildren, Steven Franks (Pam), Christopher Franks (Michaelina), Jeromy Rainey (Rachel), Kimberly Rainey, Abby Hunt, and Jessica Carroll; six great grandchildren, Dalton McAfee, Kaelie McAfee, Hannah Vance, IzaBella Rinks, Maverick Carroll, and Piper Rainey; sisters, Stella Ray, Ann Williams (Ben), and Linda Ard (Dewain); brother, Neil Carroll (Mary); sister-in-law, Earlene Crabb; and dozens of nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents and daughter, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Jeanette Patterson, Myra Byrd, Josie Morris, Judy Gober, and Alma Crowley; one brother, Melvin Carroll; great grandchild, EmmaLyn Faith Rinks; his in-laws, Earl and Lear Patrick; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
