Retired Gunnery Sgt Carl Watson Whitehead was born September 25, 1944 in Waynesboro, TN, the son of the late Robert Franklin and Martha Loretta Skelton Whitehead. He was united in marriage to Shirley May Franks Miller on July 28, 1994.
Mr. Whitehead served in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps 28 years, was a lifetime member of VFW and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Whitehead departed this life on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 71 Years, 5 Months, 28 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley May Franks Miller Whitehead of Lawrenceburg (Wayne County), TN; a son, Danny Miller and wife, Freda of Whitehouse, TN; daughters, Tonya Whitehead Haddock Warren and husband, Robert of Lawrenceburg, TN, Jacqueline Vaughn and husband, Johnny and Misty Berry and husband, Phil all of Waynesboro, TN and Toni Berry and husband, Brian of Whitehouse, TN; grandchildren, Brandon Blackmore, Johnathon, Kristen, Preston, Trenton and Alaina Vaughn, Michael Powell, Caitlin and Timothy Haddock, Hannah and Dawson Warren, Daniel and Matthew Miller and Christefer and Brandon Berry; great-grandchildren, Aliyah Vaughn and Braydin Blackmore; a brother, James Lewis Whitehead of Hohenwald, TN; sisters, Annie Gertrude Frazier of Cumberland City, TN and Fannie Warren of Clifton, TN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Albert, Jay, Robert M. and Olien F. Whitehead and sisters, Ruth Whitehead Carroll, Bessie Whitehead Skelton Potete, Mary Whitehead Wilson, Nora Whitehead Mathis Gassman and Ida Rebecca Whitehead Curtis Higgins.
Services will be Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Jimmy Pearcy officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Highland United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Ovilla Community, Wayne County,Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County directing. Visitation will be Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 10 am until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
