Mr. Carl Smith passed peacefully on March 18, 2021 at Savannah Health Care at the age of 92, with his daughter and son-in-law at his side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born April 23, 1929, in Clifton, Tennessee, to Alfred and Rixie Smith. He was a hard worker, working two jobs most of his life: jobs ranging from farmer, inventor, mechanic, and businessman. He was always keeping busy. He retired from GM Fisher Body Plant after 37 years.
Carl had a full life and made many friends wherever he went. He always had a smith and a joke when you saw him. He was known for his dashing looks and his fedora hat.
He leaves behind one daughter, Carla Woods and her husband James; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Fay Smith and Bill Smith and his wife Christy; one sister, Edith Franks and her husband Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and three children, Mackie Sue Barnett, James A. Smith, and Geneva Smith; five brothers, Walter, Jack, Claude, Bobby Gene, Glen; and one sister, May Smith.
