Mr. McAlpin died Monday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was a native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, the son of the late Jacob Wesley and Bessie Ola Baker McAlpin. Mr. McAlpin was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II. On July 22, 1943, he married the former Ollie Mae Hodge. Mrs. McAlpin passed from this life on November 11, 2002.
A member of Hebron Baptist Church, he retired from the Bolivar Tannery after 29 years of service. In his leisure time, Mr. McAlpin enjoyed "trot-line" fishing, hunting, farming and gardening.
He leaves three daughters, Ruth Kirk and her husband, Travis, of Henderson; Shirley Gurley of Bolivar and Becky Harbin and her husband, Mark, of Henderson; one son, Glenn McAlpin and his wife, Wynne, of Middleton; two sisters, Alberta Lipford and Lorene Lipford, both of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Rita Nuckolls and her husband, Kim, of Bolivar; Michelle Cartwright and her husband, Jeremy, of Bartlett; Tim and Steve McAlpin of Middleton; Gina Tulley and her husband, Corey, of Memphis; Amy Busby and her husband, Nick, of Henderson; Brandi Beshires and her husband, John, of Beech Bluff; one step-grandchild, Jason Dixon and his wife, Ashley, of Collierville; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Wesley and Olan Lester McAlpin; and two infant granddaughters, Donna and Bonna Gurley.
