Buford Eugene "Gene" Hicks, age 78 of Middleton, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Bolivar General Hospital.He was born March 25, 1930 in Middleton to the late William B. and Olla Bell Cox Hicks. He served in the U. S. Marines as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. In 1953, he moved to Flint, MI where he worked for General Motors as an inspector. He married Gladys Eastman, who survives, September 3, 1964 and in 1984, they moved to Middleton. He was a member of the V.F.W.In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Larry Hicks of Burton, MI, and Ty Lacy of New Lothrop, MI; three daughters, Judy Flanniken of Sherman, TX, Dawn Denno of Cincinnati, OH, and Melia Lambert of Rixeyville, VA; a sister, Ruth Cremer of Middleton; four brothers, Leonard Hicks of Bellevue, FL, William P. Hicks of Lansing, MI, John T. Hicks of Kaiser, AR, and Alford Hicks of Jonesboro, AR; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
