Mr. Bruce E. Avent, age 75 of Bolivar, Tennessee, passed away Thursday morning, January 28, 2016 at his home.
A lifelong resident of Hardeman County, Mr. Avent was was born in Grand Junction, Tennessee on Monday, February 19, 1940 to the late John and Nellie Estelle Lax Avent. On Friday, August 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to Earline P. Avent, who survives.
He worked as an over the road driver for more than 50 years, and drove for Roadway Trucking as well as for himself. Some of his hobbies included buying, working on and reselling cars. He loved to joke & kid around, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Avent was a member of Middleburg Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of over 45 years, he is survived by his daughters, Monica Corley and husband Rion of Franklin, and Jennifer Cossey and husband Jim of the Marshall Islands; sons, Dennis Lax, Jr. and wife Karen of Memphis, and Michael Lax and wife Lisa of Kentucky; sister, Nell Marie Smith of Southaven, Mississippi; brother, Roye Avent of Horn Lake, Mississippi; and grandchildren, Blaine Lax, Tristen Avent, Leightyn Cossey, Addison Cossey, Graeson Cossey, Zachary Corley, and Maggie Corley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey Bruce Avent, who passed away in 2005; and four sisters, Dorothy Pringle, Mable Bryant, Frankie Novay, and Lois Organ.
