Brenda Joyce Horton

Brenda Joyce Horton of Collinwood, TN was born in Richwoods, MO on September the 4th, 1947. She is the daughter of the late Virgie Lee Walbert and the late George R. Butler and the late step-mother Ella Butler. As a young woman she was united in marriage to her loving husband Doyle Horton for 51 years. Two children came to bless this union. Brenda departed her life in her home in Collinwood surrounded by the love of her family on July 25th, 2016 having reached the age of 68 years, ten months, and 21 days. She is survived by her husband Doyle Horton; one daughter Jacqueline Rae Hicks of Collinwood; one son Robert Shannon Horton and wife Hollie of Iron City; four grandchildren, Jacob Hicks of Lexington, Raven and Katie Hicks of Collinwood, and Reese Horton of Iron City; two brothers, Alvin Ruefenacht and wife Margaret of Chattanooga, TN; Walter Butler and wife Vickie of Iron City. One sister Georgia Franks and husband Leon of Olive Hill; 11 sisters-in-law, 11 brothers in law, several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives as well as many friends. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, Virgil Roscoe Butler and sister, Linda Darlene Stooksberry. Brenda was of the Baptist faith and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Richwoods, MO.

Brenda liked to spend her time gardening with her flowers, quilting, and fishing alongside her family. Each of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart as they did in hers, a devoted and loving mother and wife and grandmother. She will be sadly missed and lovely remembered by those who knew her. As a last message to her family Brenda wanted to tell her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law that she enjoyed her life with them and loved them as if they were her own blood and not just as "in-laws". They played a great roll in fulfilling a void in her life.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Cromwell
Crossroads Church in the Crossroads community with Greg Eaton officiating.
Interment following in the Cromwell Crossroads Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday at 11:00 AM until service time at the church.
