Bonnie Lee Cheshier, age 79, Bethel Springs, Tennessee, died June 27, 2007. She is survived by brother, Cavit Cheshier (Mary Evelyn) of Nashville, niece Lynn Adelman (Bill) of Nashville, niece Cynthia Higginbotham (Mike) of Knoxville, grandnieces, Stephanie and Manning Adelman, and Mary Higginbotham. She was preceded in death by parents, Atlas and Elma Wamble Cheshier.
Bonnie was a graduate of Bethel Springs High School, Freed-Hardeman University, and Union University. For 40 years she was an elemntary school teacher in McNairy County Public Schools. She taught at Bethel Springs, Ramer, and Selmer. "Miss Bonnie," as she was called, was an outstanding academically driven teacher. Parents frequently requested their children be placed in her class. She was a career-long member of the McNairy County Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, National Education Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma professional sorority for teachers. She served as McNairy County Education Association secretary. She received numerous recognitions as a teacher and the Selmer Rotary Club named her Most Valuable Employee of the year 1987-1988.
Bonnie lived most of her life on the family farm in McNairy County before moving to Selmer after retirement in 1989. Several years later, she relocated to Morningside at Belmont Assisted Living in Nashville to be near her brother.
She was a life long member of Bethel Springs Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school over twenty years. Bonnie's life was devoted to care giving to family, students, church, and the needy. Her presence will be missed, but her contributions will live in the lives she touched.
