Bobby Neal Wilson, age 71, retired teacher and coach, died Saturday evening at Jackson General Hospital.
Mr. Wilson was born and reared in Chester County, the Woodville Community, the son of the late W. O. and Pauline Rowland Wilson. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1957. He attended U. T. Martin where he played baseball. He entered the U. S. Army and was station in Texas and Maryland. After he returned from the service he attended Memphis State and later graduated from Union University, where he received his teaching certificate.
Coach Wilson began his teaching and coaching career at Jackson Junior High and then moved to Jackson South Side in 1969. While at South Side he taught algebra and geometry and coached girls and boys basketball, baseball, football, and served as assistant principal until he retired in 1997.
He married Doris Hill and they made their home in Jackson. She preceded in death in 1999.
Bobby was the previous co-owner of Sylvan Learning Center in Jackson and Dyersburg.
He married Jeanne Kaump in 2004 and they owned and operated the Sylvan Learning Center in Florence, AL and made their home in Jackson.
Bobby was very active in the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson and the Jackson YMCA and worked in the YMCA summer camps and coached Little League baseball.
Bobby loved his students, players, friends, church and family.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne Kaump Wilson of Jackson, a son Mike Wilson and wife Rosemary of Huntsville, a daughter Kelly Wilson Little and husband Paul of Jackson and two step sons; Father Joey Kaump of Camden and Michael Kaump and wife Iris of Pinson. He has four grandchildren; Wil Little, Col Little, Anna Wilson, and Garet Wilson. He is also survived by a brother Jim Wilson and wife Betty of Senatobia, MS. He was preceded in death by a sister Brenda Strickland.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Shackelford – Casey Chapel in Henderson with Tom Mapes and Phillip Chambers officiating and burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery at Malesus.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 5:00 PM Tuesday.
