Mr. Bobby Joe Rosson, age 80 of Whiteville, Tennessee, passed from this life early Monday morning, February 29, 2016 at his home.
He was a native of Pocahontas, TN and lived his early years in Hardeman County. He graduated from Bolivar Central High School with the Class of 1954. On June 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Emily Moore, who survives.
Mr. Rosson retired in 1979 from the United States Navy as a Navy Commander. He served our country for over 24 years, including 2 tours of Vietnam. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Memphis State University as well as a Master’s degree from Webster University. Following his retirement from active duty, Commander Rosson taught Navy ROTC near St. Louis before moving back to Hardeman County in 1986. He also continued to teach college courses to naval personnel aboard ships through the Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE).
He was a member of the Whiteville First Baptist Church, and in his spare time enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, Emily, he leaves two sons, Mike Rosson and his wife, Tracy, of Hickory Withe, and Robert Rosson and his wife, Sherry, of Bolivar. He also leaves three grandchildren, Christopher Rosson of Bartlett, Corey Rosson of Nashville, and Katie Rosson of Bolivar.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Romelda Rosson.
