Mr. Jones passed away Thursday morning at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
The husband of Dorothy Jones, who survives, he was a mechanic for Outboard Motors and owned Jones Marine Service in Memphis. He also farmed. He was born to the late Ernest Richard and Myrtle Catherine Horn Jones in Memphis, Tennessee and lived most of his life there. He graduated Bartlett High School with the class of 1949 and served in the Army as a sergeant during the Korean War. He moved to Whiteville in 1974 where he was a founding member of the Whiteville church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on February 17, 1951, survivors include two daughters, Debbie Bruce of Whiteville and Janet Bell of Brownsville; one brother, Dick Jones of Memphis; five grandchildren, Julie Bruce, Jeff Bruce, Jason Bruce, Tommy Ferrell and Melanie Ferrell; and one great-granddaughter, Kirsten Watson.
