Bobbie Jo Rogers Shackelford
was born on June 12, 1930 in Adamsville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William Dewey and Myrtie Strawn Rogers. On December 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to R. P. (Bob) Shackelford, Jr. who survives.
Bobbie Jo, as she was known to her friends, played an active role in the day-to-day operations of the family’s business, Shackelford Funeral Directors, and served as the head accountant for The Shackelford Corporation as well as being a member of the Board of Directors and the corporate Treasurer.
As a member of the Savannah church of Christ, she taught the sixth grade Sunday School class for many years. Her community involvement was not limited to her work with the church but extended into many other areas. She was a former member and President of the Savannah Garden Club, the North Elementary PTA and the Savannah Junior Auxiliary, of which she was also a charter member and recipient of the Virbette Award. She previously served as the Treasurer for the Savannah Arts Commission, helped organize the Savannah chapter of the Freed-Hardeman Associates and served as its first President, volunteered for the Red Cross, and served as a volunteer and board member for the Lad and Lass Day Care Center and Hardin County Skills.
Her dedication and love for her family shone in all she did for them, working as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for seven years, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and avid supporter of the Hardin County High School Band as a member of the Band Boosters. Bobbie Jo loved being with her family and every holiday had to be celebrated with a meal together.
On May 1, 2008, at age 77, Bobbie Jo Rogers Shackelford departed this life at her home in Savannah. Other than her husband, Bob, she leaves her daughter, Lisa S. Thomas and her husband, Joe, of Savannah, Tennessee and her son Robert P. Shackelford, III and his wife, Alison, of Selmer, Tennessee. She also leaves her grandchildren, Joseph Thomas and his wife, Natalie, Kathryne Guinn and her husband, Dennis, all of Savannah, Tennessee, and Preston Shackelford and Autumn Shackelford, both of Selmer, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Lorraine Farley, Christine Glover and Dean Gay, and one grandson, Hunter Jefferson Shackelford.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Savannah church of Christ.
