Birdie Allen Balentine

Birdie Allen Balentine of Iron City, TN was born September 10, 1921 in Cypress Inn, Tennessee, the son of the late Ticer and Roxie Creasy Balentine. He was united in marriage to Ledie Irene Coosenberry and she preceded him in death on April 3, 1989.



Mr. Balentine was a retired heavy equipment operator with the City of Florence street department . He was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Collinwood, Tennessee.



Mr. Balentine departed this life on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee at the age of 89 Years, 2 Months, 29 Days.



He is survived by a son, Gary Balentine of Iron City, TN; daughters, Sandra Gail Collins of Collinwood, TN, Wanda Thompson of Iron City, TN; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.



In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Balentine was preceded in death by sons, Larry Kenneth Balentine and Charles E. Balentine; a brother, Lincoln Balentine; sisters, Mary Henson, Goldie Corum, Gertie Edwards, Icie Pilkinton, Emma Jane Moore, and Lydia Phillips.



Services will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Cornerstone Church, Collinwood, TN with John Hodum, Gary Hodum, and David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cypress Inn, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors directing. Visitation will be Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 9 am to service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Gene Jones, Daniel Graves, Paul (Buck) Lard, Jr., Paul Lard, Jimmy Martin, Steven Balentine. Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Rhodes and Johnny Glover.
