Billy Joe Whitaker was born January 22, 1937 in Ramer, Tennessee the son of the late James Marion and Julia Myrtle Ramsey Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker, a retired industrial Construction worker with 30 years of service and an employee for 17 years for the City of Selmer, departed this life on April 26, 2006 in Jackson, Tennessee. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Selmer and a member of the National Guard for many years.Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife, Willodean Naylor Whitaker of Selmer; daughters, Julia A. Bowden,of West Memphis, Arkansas, Sherry Oliver of Crawfordsville, Arkansas, Rhonda S. Whitaker-Hamm of Selmer; sons, Marion D. Whitaker and Joe G. Whitaker both of Selmer; sisters, Mary Ruth Grissom, Montez Hill, Frankie McDonald, and Mary Alice Moore all of Selmer; grandchildren, Glenn Whitaker, James Whitaker, Alicia Whitaker, Brian Bowden, Kristy Bowden, Brandy Cupples, Jessica Newsom, Erica Moore, Amanda Whitaker, Emily Hamm; and great grandchildren Haley Beth Moore and Barnson Bowden.In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Foster, Marie Thornton; brothers, Milton D. Whitaker, Eulie Whitaker, James M. Whitaker, Jerry Neal Whitaker; and grandparents, T. L. and Fannie Jane Robinson Whitaker and William Riley and Alice Nora Weatherbee Ramsey.
