Billy Joe Sanders, age 74 of Hornsby, passed from this life Thursday, November 20, 2008 in Jackson, TN.
He was born January 7, 1934 in Hardeman County to the late William McKinley and Mary Myrtle Cox Sanders. He was the retired Superintendent of Schools in Hardeman County, after having held the position for twelve years. Before that, he had worked as a teacher, coach and Assistant Principal. He served his country in the United States Army. He was also an ordained Southern Baptist Minister, worshipping at Hornsby Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday School and served as a past Sunday School Director. He married Sandra Jean Maffett, who survives, December 21, 1972.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sanders is survived by four daughters, Barbara Reszel and husband Jim of Camden, Carrie Sanders Lovelace of Hornsby, Rachel Ross and husband Will of Hornsby, and Becky Sanders of Hornsby; four sons, Steve Sanders and wife Courtney of Doniphan, MO, Joey Sanders of Camden, Doug McFarland of Ripley, TN and Ben Sanders of Hornsby; three sisters, Vernell Wacker of Hornsby, Eloise Poole of Medon and Lucille Pierce of Hornsby; ten grandchildren, Grace, Sarah and Caroline Lovelace, Mary Margaret and Meredith Ann Ross, Dianne Pickens, Susan Galloway, Jennifer Griswell, Makenzie McFarland and Patrick Ray; and three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Mary Ella and Sam Griswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Sanders.
