Billy C. Powell, 84 years of age, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at his home in Hickory Valley. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Jane Mitchell Powell. He was a member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church where he was a deacon and treasurer for many years.
He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1950 and joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years.
He was a farmer who loved the land. He actively participated in the farming organizations and had served on Farm Bureau, Co-op and FHA Boards. He represented his district on Hardeman County School Board for 16 years.
He was predeceased by his parents John R. Powell and Ruth Holmes Powell, two brothers R.B. (Bubber) Powell and Gaylon H. Powell and two sisters Hazel Brumbelow and Kathryn Allen.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children Robin Powell Campbell (Jack) of Amory, MS, and Bob Powell (Jonna) of Hickory Valley; three Grandsons John Campbell, Benton and Tanner Powell; three granddaughters, Leah Kathryn Anzenberger (Tim), Carrington Campbell, and Julianna Powell; and one great grandson Campbell Smith.
Visitation for Mr. Powell will be at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar on Sunday, April 19, from 2 pm until 5 pm, and on Monday, April 20, from 11am until 1pm. Services will be held Monday, April 20, at the Shackelford Chapel in Bolivar. Interment will be at Bolivar Memorial Cemetery in Bolivar.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Hickory Valley Baptist Church.
