Billy Joe Gladwin was born August 6, 1936 in Hardin Co., Tennessee, the son of the late James Carroll and Bessie Mae Dodd Gladwin. He was united in marriage to Betty Sue Prater on May 26, 1960.
Mr. Gladwin was a sewing machine mechanic, having worked at Dillon, Hickory Hills, Harwood, Cross Country Apparel, and Angelica. He was a member of the Full Gospel House of Praise.
Mr. Gladwin departed this life on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 72 years, 4 months, 25 days after a sudden illness.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Gladwin; a son, Phillip Gladwin both of Clifton, TN; three daughters, Linda Alley and husband, Terry and Brenda Wheat and husband, Jerry all of Clifton, TN, Susan Brewer and husband, Jay of Collinwood, TN; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Faye Franks of Savannah, TN; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gladwin was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ruth Gladwin.
Services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Casey Jones and Joseph Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Prater's Chapel Cemetery at Clifton, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Visitation will be Thursday, January 1, 2009 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm and Friday, January 2, 2009 from 8:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
