Billy Thomas Cheshier, Sr., was born on August 25, 1929, in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, the first of six kids born to Lonnie and Ruth Mitchell Cheshier. Growing up in this area, he played, farmed, and attended school at Bethel Springs where he graduated. On December 10, 1947, he married the love of his life, Shirley M. Barnes. Settling in Selmer, Tennessee, he worked at Brown Shoe Company and started a family and bought a home. At a young age, three children, Tommy, Sue, and Diana, rounded out the Cheshier family. Diana died at an early age in 1958. Thru the years, Billy worked hard to support his family. He was known to be a good sales person. After his employment at Brown Shoe, he worked at McNairy County General Hospital.
Mr. Cheshier was an ordained minister. His true love was preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping those in need. He ministered and taught God's Truth from the Holy Bible for twelve years to those he visited in prison and jail. He truthfully could say "Jesus Saves". Billy departed this earth on Monday, March 9, 2009, in Humboldt, Tennessee, to be with his Lord and Saviour.
Survivors are his wife of 61 plus years, Shirley Marthell Cheshier; daughter, Nellie Sue Cheshier Sisco and husband Barry Michael of Jackson, Tennessee; son, Billy Thomas "Tommy" Cheshier, Jr., also of Jackson; one sister, Bettie Williams of Selmer; three brothers, Danny Cheshier and wife Ann of Bolivar, Tennessee, Jerry Cheshier and wife Peggy, also of Bolivar, Jack Cheshier and wife Molly of Selmer.
Ten grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Other than his parents and daughter, Billy was also preceded in death by a sister Martha Ann Cheshier.
