Billy Joe Burnette, 68, of Hornsby, died Tuesday morning, May 24, 2005 at his home.
The husband of Bonnie Cofer Burnette, who survives, he was a saw mill worker and was employed by West Vaco for over 20 years. Mr. Burnette was born July 20, 1936 in Hardeman County, son of the late Garlon and Nell Sexton Burnette and lived here all of his life. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in McNairy County and a County Commissioner for Hardeman County.
Services were 2 PM Thursday, May 26, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Frank Bell, Bobby Kirk and Steve Robinson officiating. Burial was in Powell's Chapel Cemetery near Middleton.
In addition to his wife, whom he married February 4, 1978, survivors include six daughters, Vickie Henson of Middleton, Lorraine Cranford of Walnut, Miss., Resa Rush of Silerton, Ann Bryant of Bolivar, Gloria Hays of Pocahontas and Teresa Busby of Henderson; three sons, Leon Burnette of Middleton, Pedie Cofer of Collierville and Melvin Cofer of Hornsby; two sisters, Mary Ann Raines of Memphis and Garlene Dawson of Walnut, Miss.; 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Drexel Cofer and two brothers, Aaron Burnette and James Henry Burnette.
