Billy Joe Blackburn, Jr., 49, of Burnsville, Miss., died Monday, January 23, 2006 at his home after a long illness.
The husband of Wendy Sue Brackett Blackburn, who survives, he was a painter for over 30 years. Mr. Blackburn was born September 1, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Billy Joe Blackburn, Sr. and Janie Elizabeth Cannon Blackburn. He grew up in Bolivar, “calling it homeâ€, before living in Theo for 6 years and in Burnsville for the past two years. He was a hunter and gunsmith and he loved to fish. He also loved his grandchildren “more than life itselfâ€. Mr. Blackburn was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Corinth.
Services were 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Rev. Nelson Hight officiating. Burial was in Vernon Cemetery near Cloverport.
In addition to his wife, whom he married March 1, 1975, survivors include one son, Billy Joe Blackburn, III and his wife, Christy; four daughters and their husbands, Amy & Brian Burcham, Jamie & Phillip Brooks, Audrey & Edward Meeks and Sarah & Jeremiah McDuffy; two sisters, Terry Michelle Roby of Corinth, Miss. and Elizabeth Ann Killough of Rienzi, Miss.; four brothers, Robert W. Blackburn of Mt. Pleasant, Miss., Richard W. Blackburn of Lake Mohawk, Miss. and Timothy L. Blackburn and David J. Blackburn, both of Mt. Pleasant, Miss. and eleven grandchildren.
