Billy Gene (Bill) Beckham was born May 18, 1925 on Indian Creek in the Three Churches Community in Wayne County, TN, the son of the late Noah and Mattie Jane (Becky) Eaton Beckham. On December 19, 1944 Mr. Beckham joined the U.S. Navy receiving the World War II victory and the Asiatic-Pacific Medals. He was discharged July 2, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Beckham was former vice mayor of Clifton from 1972 to 1974 and mayor from 1974 to 1976 and from 1990 to 1998 mayor and also served as city commissioner. He had worked the the Sinclair Gas Station in Clifton and was retired as manager from Production Credit Association in the Savannah office in 1983. Presently he was a cattle farmer. As a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Clifton, he served as elder and presently served on the Board at First Presbyterian Church Daycare. On September 24, 1950 he was married to his wife, Doris Jean Skinner who survives of Clifton, their children, Christopher Lynn Beckham and wife Rhonda and daughter, Denise Guinn Beckham Lineberry and her husband Timmy all of Clifton, TN, grandchildren, Taylor Ann Beckham, William Carson Beckham, Chris (Moe) Lineberry and wife Chrystal, Brandi Guinn Lineberry Prater and husband Nick, great grandchildren, Noah Scott Prater, Lucas Glen Prater, Lynze Templeton and husband Adam, and Weston Cole Lineberry, a great-great grandchild, Jaxx Madden Templeton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Beckham was preceded in death by a son, William Brent Beckham, a granddaughter, Lee Ann Lineberry, three brothers, Eaton Johnson, Hoyt Johnson, and Robert Beckham.
Services will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Clifton, Tennessee, with Dr. Michael Bradley and Tracy Love officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Clifton Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until service time.
Pallbearers are Stephen Gobbell, Jamie Simmons, Timmy Cooke, Tommy Cooke, Steve Beckham, and Tommy Johnson, honorary pallbearers are Clyde Carroll and Kenneth Templeton.
