Mrs. Bettye Carlin Cox of Hornsby departed this life at the age of 79 years Monday night, April 1, 2013 at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer.
Mrs. Cox was born in Hardeman County June 16, 1933 to the late John Pruitt and Estelle Clampitt Carlin and lived her entire life in the area. On April 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Charles O. Cox who preceded her in death March 8, 2007. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Brown Shoe Company. She was a member of the Powell's Chapel Methodist Church and lead singing there. She also helped build the new church building, as she was very "hands on" and enjoyed working with a hammer and nails. She was an avid gardener and loved to take care of her lawn.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Kirk of Hornsby, and a host of nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lottie Faye Thigpen and Annie Mae Sparks.
