Betty Jean Turman Ray

Mrs. Betty Jean Turman Ray departed this life on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at NHC Healthcare in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee at the age of 90 Years, 3 Months, 18 Days. Mrs. Betty was born November 20, 1925 in Waynesboro, TN, the daughter of the late Elijah Vanburen and Martha Madora Casteel Turman. She was united in marriage to James Morris Ray on April 13, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1996. Mrs. Betty was a retired merchant and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Ray.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha J Belew of Lawrenceburg, TN; grandchildren, Jon Gobbell and Amy Gobbell Santini; great-grandchildren, Presley and Jon Frank Gobbell and Sophia and Nate Santini and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee with Don Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors directing. Pallbearers will be Jim Beavers, Micah Devore, Ralph Hughes, Jr., Martin Haggard, Jr., Coy Anderson and Larry Haggard. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Rains, Clyde Walker, Roy Holt, James Herbert Haggard, Herbert Brewer, Gene Helton and Jimmy Basham.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 from noon until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, TN or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
