Henderson, TN: Betty Jean Burton age 86 passed away September 15, 2016 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born July 1, 1930 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Will and Noela McNatt Barnes. She was a outstanding basketball player and graduated Chester County High School in 1948 and attended West Tennessee Business College. She was employed by Chickasaw State Park, where she met Joe T. Burton and they were married on January 11, 1952. They made their home in Henderson. She was employed later by Griffin Florist, as a Floral Designer, Hub City Florist, Hamilton Florist and Johnson Flower Shop. She was a member of the wives of Veterans Club at U.T. Martin, a member of the ladies Goff Association at Woodland Hills, a member of the American Cancer Society golf team that won the State Tournament and participated in the National Tournament. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burton is survived by her husband, Joe T. Burton, Sr. of Henderson; a daughter, Elaine Burton Heinze of Henderson two sons, William Bradley Burton and wife Sharon Kay of Beech Bluff and Joe T. Burton, Jr. and wife Anita Gail of Henderson; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, September 19, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Glenn Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Houston Cemetery at Parsons, TN.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Johnson Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday and beginning at 9:00 AM Monday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN
