Betty Lou Blount

Betty Lou Clausel Blount was born September 30, 1932 in Hardin County, TN the daughter of the late James Daniel and Lounettie Steward Clausel.

She was united in marriage to Ancil Blount on July 16, 1950.

Betty Lou worked for Citizens Bank in Savannah and was a co-owner of B & G Contracting with her sister-in-law Geneva Rinks. She was an accomplished cook who was famous for her caramel cakes, pecan pies, and fried field corn, from which she would meticulously pick the silks with a toothpick while cooking. Betty Lou also enjoyed taking care of the hogs and her twice weekly trips to the beauty shop so she would look her best for church on Wednesday night and Sunday. She was a faithful member of the Savannah church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School classes and was active in the World Bible School program for many years.

Betty Lou departed this life on February 23, 2021 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 4 Months, 24 Days. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ancil Blount of Savannah, TN; two sons, Freddy Blount and wife Janie and Jonathan Blount, all of Savannah, TN; two grandchildren, Jeremy Blount and wife Kelli of Nashville, TN and Matthew Blount and wife Rebecca of Chapel Hill, TN; five great-grandsons: Jackson Blount, Keegan Blount, Easton Blount, Blaine Blount, and Grayson Blount; a sister-in-law, Katie Sue Blount of Savannah, TN; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was preceded in death by six sisters: Magdalene Hardin, Estelle Gillespie, Mildred Dickson, Juanita Wolfe, Nettie Sue Hughes, and a sister who died in infancy; and two brothers, James L. Clausel and Harrison Odell Clausel.

Memorials may be made to the Savannah church of Christ.

Attendees are requested to wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines when attending the graveside service.
