Lexington, TN; Bertha Berry Melton Holden, age 83, died April 21, 2008, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.She was born in a log cabin in the west part of Chester County which is now Chickasaw State Park, the daughter of the late S.T. and Fleetie Taylor Berry. She attended schools in Chester County. She was married to Max Ray Melton. She worked in the ship yard in CA as a riveter during WWII while her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy, after returing to Tennessee she worked at several dept. stores. Mr. Melton died in 1987. She later was married to Les Holden and he died in 1989. She was a member of the Big Springs Methodist Church.Mrs. Holden will now be returned to the place where she was born to be buried in Big Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Van Ray Melton of Lexington, Johnny Mac Melton of Memphis and Tommy Mike Melton of Rossville, TN; two sisters, Sue Berry Bells of Lake Shasta, CA and Lou Berry Smith of Middleton, TN; three brothers, George Berry of Stantonville, TN, Arthur Berry of Seattle, WA and Troy Berry of Adamsville, TN; five grandchildren, Ricky Melton, Shane Melton, Tommy Melton, Stacey Melton and Taylor Melton; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.She was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Lee Berry.
