Bert Phillips departed this life on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the age of 92 years, 3 months, 19 days.
He was born in Adamsville, Tennessee on December 4, 1920, the son of the late Willis Freling and Emma Bell Surratt Phillips. On September 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Wood, who survives.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Navy during WWII for 4 years. He was in the Pacific for 2 1/2 years and was a Chief Petty Officer. On returning home, he became a rural carrier, from which he retired, and the owner of Phillips Plumbing. He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, and VFW Commander.
He loved the Lord, loved deer and turkey hunting, Tennessee football, Little League Manager, and the President of Babe Ruth Baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Phillips of Savannah, Tennessee; daughter, Gail Fondren and husband Dennis of Savannah, Tennessee; son, Bobby Phillips of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Todd Harrison and wife Jennifer, Scott Harrison and wife Starla, Bob Phillips and fiancé Stephanie, Beth Stephens and husband Brett, and Bart Fondren; great grandchildren, Ben Harrison, Jacquelyn Harrison, Braxton Harrison, Michael Harrison, Jacob Harrison, Anna Harrison, Emsley Stephens, and Ryland Luker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Voletta Shaw, Mary Young, and Gazelle Roberts; brothers, Boyce Phillips and Travis Phillips; grandchild, Kelly Fondren; great grandchild, Madison Boston.
