Bernice Phillips Watridge, 81, of Whiteville, died Monday, August 29, 2005 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The widow of C. C. Watridge, who died March 30, 2003 after 62 years of marriage, she worked at Harman Automotive for 21 years. Mrs. Watridge was born May 16, 1924 in Haywood County, daughter of the late John and Patsy Goodman Phillips and lived most of her life in the Whiteville area where she was involved with chaperoning local youth trips. She was a member of Whiteville First United Methodist Church where she helped cook breakfasts and with the annual stew sale. Her family states that she was involved in “all the worksâ€.
Services were 2 PM Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel. Burial was in Melrose Cemetery near Whiteville.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jean Stephenson of Oak Grove, Louisiana and Barbara Ricco of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, Johnny L. Watridge of Lynnville; one sister, Patsy Ann of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Buddy Phillips of Bolivar; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
